Quaker Quest is a programme of meetings designed to help people find
out more about Quakers. When it was first inaugurated in London its founder
Alec Davison described it as “A spiritual path for our time”.
The course was held every during March
2008 at Middlesbrough Friends Meeting House. Another is planned for 2009/10
but it is suggested you come along to a meeting house to see what things
are like.
When the idea was first suggested we asked some Quakers what they thought
people were looking for. One said “There’s a hunger in the
public at large for something that is not satisfied by hedonism or materialism.
They have a spiritual instinct, but many are put off by strident evangelism
and religious language” Another said “People are yearning
for a deeper meaning to their lives.” A third said “Quakers
offer unconditional love…we offer an acceptance of people where
they are at, a loving acceptance of difference.”

Our Quaker Quest aims to meet those needs. It’s most certainly NOT evangelism,
but Quakers believe they have something of great value to offer
a spiritually hungry world. We welcome anyone who wishes to attend; there’s
no charge, no obligation to join anything, and no-one will call on you
at home. Each event lasts about two hours with refreshments and soft
drinks, and you can come to as many or as few as you wish.
